Christmas time was an interesting time of the year when you had two archangels for lovers. Angels did not celebrate holidays, or so Sam was told. Lucifer had outright snorted one year when he had suggested putting up a tree and decorating it for the holidays. Eventually, Lucifer and Michael came around to entertaining the idea and settled for a gift exchange.
They went out in pairs, currently Sam was with Lucifer trying to get gifts for Michael. The mall was packed with people who were also doing their holiday shopping.
“What exactly do you get the prince of Heaven?” Sam mused as they strolled by windows of the latest winter fashion and children’s toys.
“Hmm, well, we can doll you up in nothing but ribbons.” Lucifer leered.
Sam sometimes wondered how exactly he had gotten into this predicament but he knew exactly how. He had been mated to Lucifer first, back when he had first gotten out of the Cage, though he had not told Dean about it until much later. At some point after Amara had gotten loose, Michael had found a way to escape the Cage on his own. Sam was in a bit of a rough patch with Lucifer since he was possessing his friend’s vessel amongst some other issues.
He was not sure why but Michael had come to him for assistance, perhaps drawn by the grace that rubbed off on Sam from being Lucifer’s mate since Lucifer masked his own grace. It was quite awkward having Chuck and his two oldest archangels living together in the bunker with them as they constantly bickered despite the unified cause of taking down Amara. They had made the Jerry Springer show seem tame by comparison.
Anyways, Michael had come to him and asked him if he would groom his wings. Sam did not think much of it at the time. Dean wanted nothing to do with the archangel that had wanted to wear him and his relationship was still too tense with Lucifer to ask his own brother.
And of course, his mate walked into his room while he was in the middle of grooming Michael. Sam had stopped immediately as he noticed the fierce glare coming from Lucire as if he had slept with the other archangel. Michael was even wearing a smug grin, which only confused him. Before Sam could even blink, Lucifer had thrown Michael off his bed and had him pinned against the wall.
“What do you think you’re doing!?” Lucifer looked about ready to put his first through Michael’s face. Sam pulled at his arms, trying to separate the two but to no avail, he was only human and no match for the might of an archangel.
“What’s going on? Why are you acting like we did the horizontal tango?” Sam asked.
“You might as well have!” Lucifer seethed, not providing much of an answer, “I can understand Sam’s ignorance but you did this on purpose, brother!”
“I don’t understand--Can one of you explain this to me?”
“Wing grooming is an intimate act that is reserved for close family...and mates.” Michael finally answered and the realization had finally sunk in of the implications of Sam grooming Michael’s wings. After a lot more bickering, they had reached a breakthrough and Michael became a part of their relationship. There was a small trial run before he was added as an official mate.
“No.” Sam rejected firmly.
“You’re no fun,” Lucifer pouted.
“We’re doing the gift exchange with Dean and Cas this year, remember? I’m not going to expose my sex life to my brother.”
“Why not? It’s only fair after you caught the two of them going at it like rabbits in the kitchen.”
“Please don’t remind me, that was very traumatic for me.” Sam swatted Lucifer on the arm as he just cackled away. All of Lucifer’s future suggestions were just as equally unhelpful, especially when he found the store selling adult toys. He had to refuse a set of handcuffs. Twice. First was a standard metal set and the second had fluffy pink fur. Seriously what was with Lucifer and bondage?
Eventually he managed to drag his mate out of the store and settled on buying a puzzle book for Michael, despite Lucifer’s complaints on how lame and unsexy it was.
