Show and tell was a casual affair in elementary school, an opportunity for a student to talk about themselves and tell stories revolving around the item that they brought. Many brought in their pets, with the aid of their parents, or their favorite toy but it was not such a simple choice for Sam. Because of their lifestyle took them on the road more often than staying in a single location, they tried to carry around as few personal belongings as possible.
Sam could only show off Dean’s old GI Joe figures so much before that got boring. Then he got the idea of bringing in the amulet that he had bought for Dean as a Christmas present but the only hurdle was to get his brother’s permission to borrow it.
Easier said than done, Sam soon realized.
“What’s up, Sammy? You hungry? I can order some pizza.” Dean greeted when he walked towards him. Currently they were on their own inside the motel as their father was out taking care of business for work.
Sam shakes his head.
“I have another show and tell coming up and I was wondering if I could bring in the amulet.” Ever since Sam had gifted it to Dean, he had never once seen it anywhere else but around his brother’s neck. He wondered if he even showered with it on.
“What? Hell no, it’s mine!” Dean said possessively, clasping the amulet protectively between his fingers.
“Dean, c’mon.” Sam tugged on his jacket. He was flattered that Dean liked his gift so much but he should be willing to part with it just for a short while.
“Nuhuh, no take backs.” Dean then stuffs the amulet underneath his shirt so that it was hidden.
“I would give it right back. I just want to bring in something different for once.” Sam pouted.
“Look, how about I get you something and you can show that off to your classmates instead?” Dean finally suggested with a sigh.
“Don’t buy just anything, it should have special meaning.”
“I wouldn’t do that to you, Sammy. Give me a couple of days and I will find you something real nice.” Dean patted his head.
What Sam ended up receiving was a plush dog of a yellow lab. He smiled as his brother had remembered his occasional whining about wishing that he had a pet dog.
