Adam decided that it was best not to look a gift horse in the mouth when he was mysteriously brought back to life and no longer confined inside the Cage with Michael or Lucifer. As surprising as it was, he had no complaints about it. He planned to steer clear of the Winchesters as it was partially their fault that he had ended up in this mess to begin with. Not to mention they had not lifted a finger to pull him out of the Cage.
So, he went and tried to live as normal as a life as he could for being previously dead and worn by a pissed off archangel. Which meant going back to studying pre-med. It was not an easy feat and Adam had to employ the help of a skilled hacker in order to proceed with even submitting an application. But thankfully it had worked out.
He had gotten a full scholarship and found himself a decent apartment in northern California, which was quite a sharp contrast from Wisconsin as the weather was generally warmer in California. He found himself not needing a winter jacket much.
Sometimes he had flashbacks to Michael’s possession or the time in the Cage, mostly in the form of nightmares that startled him awake in the middle of the night but other times the memories would flash through his mind while he was awake. Lucifer had not bothered him too much as his attention had been focused on Sam then on Michael after he was pulled out. All he could remember was just his flesh burning because of how scorchingly hot Michael’s grace was.
When he experienced those kind of flashbacks during the day, his mind just shut out everything around him. He had been searching through the library for some books to use for his paper when all the sudden he zoned out.
“Hey, are you okay?” Adam heard a feminine voice as he was jostled out of the thoughts as presumably the same person shook his shoulder. The books that he was cradling in his arms spilled out to the ground as he regained awareness. He blinked as he saw a beautiful woman with dark skin lean forward to pick up the books and handed them over to him.
“Sorry...my PTSD flares up occasionally at bad times…” He apologized.
“I understand but are you sure that you are okay?”
“Unfortunately my issues are beyond the paygrade of any therapist out there.” Adam gave out a weak, half-hearted chuckle. It was not like he could tell anyone the truth of what happened to him. If he did, they would probably lock him up in a padded cell and label him crazy. And Adam had enough of confining spaces, “I’m Adam, by the way.” He introduced as he extended his hand out. He had made a few friends since starting classes but he could stand to make a few more.
“Hael. I couldn’t help but notice the titles of your books, are you studying medicine?”
“Yeah, I’m pre-med right now, hoping to get into a good medical school.” Which would only happen if he kept up on his grades and got glowing letters of recommendation.
“What would you like to do ultimately?”
“Become a pediatrician.” He had seen enough shit that he did not want to deal with patients that were on the verge of dying or were terminally ill. Maybe back then he could handle it but now not so much, he did not have the stomach for it.
“That’s a very admirable goal.” Hael complimented him.
“What about you?”
“...That’s a good question and the first time I been asked what I want...Honestly, I’m not quite sure anymore.” In response to the perplexed look that Adam gave her, she clarified, “For a long time, I lived under my older brother’s shadow, following his footsteps in abiding by our father’s will. But our father is gone and now my older brother is gone as well.”
“Oh…” He let out the sound, not sure of how to reply. He might have two half brothers but he had been brought up as an only child and really could not understand what it was like to have siblings. When he thought of Sam and Dean, all he could think about was massive disappointment. “Perhaps you should consider finding your own path then. It’s your life, not theirs."

Since their first meeting at the library, Adam meets up with Hael occasionally to hang out and talk. One of his friends, Joshua, teased him for being into older women. He had not gotten an age out of Hael and Adam was not going to pry but she was rather mature. She was a private person that did not share much of her personal life but Adam found that she was rather knowledgeable when it came to medicine, offering to even tutor him on subject matters that he was not so sure about.
Adam had invited Hael into his apartment for such tutor session and perhaps unwind afterwards. She had taken notice that he only had photographs of his mother on display.
“My father was not very involved with my life much. Years later I found out that he actually had a family, my mother was just a one night stand.” He frowned.
“Did you ever meet your father’s family?” Hael inquired in curiosity.
Adam let out a bitter laugh, “They came crashing in, spouting nonsense about how much family meant but in the end they forgot about me. Some family, huh?”
“I have come to believe that there is no such thing as a perfect family.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right about that.”

Adam had always been neutral when it came to his birthday but as he got older, becoming a year older did not mean much to him. However, ever since his possession by Michael, he scorned the day because it also coincided with Michaelmas, the Feast of the Archangels as celebrated by Christians. He wondered if it was sheer coincidence that he was born that day or had it been fate, even though Dean had been the true vessel.
Despite his reluctance, his friends insisted on throwing together a birthday party for him to celebrate his technically 20th birthday, not counting the amount of time that he spent in the Cage as time passed by so differently down there.
Hael joins Adam and his friends on a drive to the beach. They got hotel rooms as they would spend the day at the beach then go to the boardwalk in the evening then return back the next morning. The weather was nice and mild, neither too hot nor too cold. He had a good time until he accidentally stepped onto a piece of glass.
“Damnit, just my luck…I swear that I’m cursed.” Adam hissed out as he cursed as he sat down on the sand and Hael kneeling in front of him tending to his foot. She disinfects the wound then wraps bandages that she got from a lifeguard’s first aid kit around it.
“You are fortunate that it did not go in too deep. Your foot will be okay, it just needs time to heal.” Unfortunately his foot injury put an early end of his time on the beach. Adam was surprised when Hael hoisted him onto her back, carrying him back towards the direction of the hotel. She was very strong as she carried him with ease, displaying almost Amazonian strength.
Hael gently places him on the bed and Adam vaguely noticed that the stinging feel had started to fade. When her back is turned, he undid the bandages to take a look at his foot. To his shock, the wound had completely healed. It had to be magic because there was no way that was natural.
He scrunched his face, contemplating how this had happened. Was there grace from Michael lingering inside him that took care of his foot? Or was it something else. Adam quickly bandaged it back up as to not alert Hael of his foot’s miraculous healing as it would probably startle her.
When she turned back around, she was holding a bottle of ibuprofen and asked if he wanted some to cope with the pain from his foot.
“It’s okay, I think I will be fine without.” He turned the medicine down and Hael did not question it, not even expressing surprise when he declined.

Adam had never thought much about dating, more focused on his academics and working towards his goals, but he found himself slowly falling for Hael. She was intelligent and beautiful. He was too fearful of rejection to say anything so he is content being just friends with her.
He had never taken Hael to be religious but he caught her one time kneeling in prayer, words that were unfamiliar to his ears slipping out of her mouth. Once she was finished and rose back up onto her feet, she looked rather agitated so Adam did not bother to ask.
He wished that he could tell her that God would not ever answer so she was better off saving her prayers. God clearly did not care about any of them since he was going to let his two eldest sons fight it out, which would have destroyed the whole world in the process.
